Russian Hybrid in the Works

Russia is investing in hybrid technology to the tune of $204 million. In a joint venture, billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov and Russian truck maker Yarovit, will create three electric car prototypes in December (Source: <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601072&sid=amcJRy1r44Kg">Bloomberg</a>).<br /><br />Production will begin in January of 2011, and will 'break-even' by mid-2012.<br /><br />That's quite a feat. Toyota, Honda and Ford took a lot longer to 'break even' on their initial investment into developing hybrid technology. Other automakers have yet to do so (it's hard to tell really. It's not like they come out and tell you).<br /><br />The car will cost about 300,000 rubles ($10,300) to 450,000 rubles and will run on gas and methane.

GreeTech Automotive to Invest $1 Billion in New Hybrid Auto Plant

GreenTech Automotive, <a bitly="BITLY_PROCESSED" href="http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9B58H8O3.htm">formerly Hybrid Kinetic Automotive Corp.</a>, will open a new hybrid automobile development and manufacturing facility in Mississippi sometime in the next few years. Their target is to build 150,000 vehicles annually.<br /><br />GreenTech says they want to employ 1,500 at the 1,500 acre site in Tunica County.<br /><br />GreenTech is having the automobiles engineered by a German design company. A separate German engine research and design company will design the hybrid engines. Peugeot and Mitsubishi Are Not Working Together to Develop Hybrids

Peugeot Citroen has denied rumors they were working with Mitsubishi Motors to develop hybrid cars. <br /><br />"We deny the information. We are working well with Mitsubishi on electric vehicles," a PSA Peugeot Citroen spokesman <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssConsumerGoodsAndRetailNews/idUSB42505520090709">told Reuters</a>. He added "we have our own research into plug-in hybrids."<br /><br /><a href="http://hybridreview.blogspot.com/2008/12/psa-peugeot-citroen-partners-with-bosch.html">Peugeot has been working with Bosch to build a hybrid diesel and is expected sometime in 2011</a>.
